Neste artigo verificaremos as relações e tensões ocorridas na sociedade entre religiosos (e suas instituições) e o cinema no perÃodo de 1896 a 1936, na Itália, Inglaterra, Estados Unidos e França. Este embate teve dois momentos de força: o perÃodo inicial, em que as ações partiram da sociedade civil, e um segundo momento no qual as instituições religiosas interferiram oficialmente nos assuntos relativos à produção cinematográfica. Observamos essas relações a partir do Campo do Filme Religioso, que se estabeleceu sobre esse delicado diálogo entre o Campo Religioso e o Campo fÃlmico. Nosso objetivo é deixar evidente a influência destes embates na estética e narrativa dos filmes.

“You cleanse the paths!†Religion, society and cinema: a clash with aesthetic and narrative consequences
Abstract
In this article we will deal with the relations and tensions between religious people (and their institutions) and filmmakers that have taken place in Italy, England, United States, and France in the period between 1896 and 1936. This confrontation had two climatic moments, a first period, with actions starting in the civil society, and a second one, when religious institutions officially interfered in matters related to film production. We will look at these relations from the field of the religious film, which settled on the delicate dialogue between the religious and the film fields. Our goal is to make evident the influence of these tensions in the movies’ aesthetic and narrative.

“¡Limpie las veredas!†Religión, sociedad y cine: un choque de consecuencias estéticas y narrativas
Resumen
En este artÃculo nos ocuparemos de las relaciones y tensiones que ocurrieran en la sociedad entre los religiosos (y sus instituciones) y las pelÃculas, entre 1896 y 1936, en Italia, Inglaterra, Estados Unidos y Francia. Este enfrentamiento tuvo dos momentos culminantes: el perÃodo inicial, donde hubo una reacción de la sociedad civil, y un segundo momento, en lo cual las instituciones religiosas han interferido oficialmente en los asuntos relativos a la producción cinematográfica. Tendremos en cuenta estas relaciones desde el Campo de la PelÃcula Religiosa, que se asentó en el delicado diálogo entre el Campo del Religioso y el Campo del Cine. Nuestro objetivo es hacer evidente la influencia de estos enfrentamientos en la estética y narrativa cinematográficas.
