Os setores de extração mineral e de metalurgia/siderurgia possuem significativa relevância
para a economia de Minas Gerais. Dessa forma, o artigo analisa o grau de concentração
desses setores, bem como sua distribuição espacial no Estado, baseada no modelo de
Estrutura-Conduta-Desempenho, para o perÃodo 2005-2007, utilizando-se dados da revista
Mercado Comum, a qual publica anualmente um ranking das empresas de Minas Gerais
com as maiores receitas operacionais lÃquidas. Através dos indicadores – razão de
concentração, Hirschman–Herfindahl e Entropia – observou-se que existe uma alta
concentração industrial nestes setores em Minas Gerais, com uma aparente redução no final
do perÃodo analisado.
The sectors of mining and metallurgy/steel mill have a significant relevance to the economy
of Minas Gerais. This, the article analyses the degree of concentration of industries
belonging to these sectors, as well as their spatial distribution in the State of Minas Gerais,
based in the Structure-Conduct-Performance approach for the period 2005-2007, using data
from the Mercado Comum magazine, which publishes an annual ranking of the largest
companies of Minas Gerais based on their net operating revenue. Through the indicators –
the concentration ratio, Hirschman-Herfindahl and Entropy – it was noted that there is a high
industrial concentration in these sectors in Minas Gerais, with an apparent reduction at the
end of the analyzed period.
