O artigo apresenta trechos de memórias ou entrevistas de 14 escritores, dos quais sete brasileiros, que narraram suas lembranças da época em que foram alfabetizados, no perÃodo do fim do século XIX a meados do século XX. Procura-se compreender a alfabetização como prática cultural, situada no tempo e no espaço, e comparar as diversas experiências dos autores. Destaca-se a importância que os escritores atribuem ao seu desejo de ler e à s disposições afetivas em relação à s pessoas com quem aprenderam.
Resumo Inglês:
The article presents passages from memoirs or interviews of 14 writers, seven of them Brazilian, giving their recollections of the time when they learned to read, in the period from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. The article endeavors to comprehend literacy development as a cultural practice framed by time and place, and to compare the authors’ diverse experiences. The authors attach particular importance to their own desire to read and to their emotional disposition towards the people they learned with. Keywords: Alphabetizing; Memories; Cultural practice.
