Este artigo apresenta uma contribuição
para a História da tributação em Sergipe
colonial e imperial. Dependente
da Capitania da Bahia, a maior parte
da riqueza produzida em Sergipe no
período colonial, era transferida para
a Metrópole através do pagamento da
décima, do donativo voluntário, do
subsídio literário. O artigo mostra também
as dificuldades enfrentadas pelos
Presidentes da Província decorrentes
do estado crítico das suas finanças. As
províncias sofriam com o centralismo,
a falta de autonomia econômica e o
fiscalismo exagerado sobre as rendas
provinciais. Os déficits se acumulavam,
pois a arrecadação não cobria
metade das despesas.

This article presents a contribution for
the History of the taxation in colonial
and imperial Sergipe. Dependent of
the Captaincy of Bahia, most of the
wealth produced in Sergipe in the colonial
period, it was transferred for the
Metropolis through the payment of the
decimal, of the voluntary donation, of
the literary subsidy. The article shows
the difficulties also faced by the Presidents
of the Province due to the state
critic of your finances. The provinces
suffered with the centralism, the lack of
economical autonomy and the exaggerating
supervision on the provincial
incomes. The deficits accumulated,
therefore the collection didn’t cover
half of the expenses.
