Há cerca de quatro décadas, espaço e lugar começaram a ser discutidos em meio ao momento em que a Geografia humanista começava a ser desenhada por alguns geógrafos insatisfeitos com o status quo de nossa ciência. Mas quatro décadas depois ainda faz sentido discutir o significado de espaço e lugar? Este não está solucionado? A resposta é, respectivamente, sim e não. Uma vez que o homem e a humanidade são o ponto de partida das nossas significações estamos – e devemos estar – constantemente mudando. Portanto, espaço e lugar não são necessariamente a mesma coisa depois de tanto tempo. Esta conferência apresenta algumas reflexões na busca dos conceitos mas, sobretudo, procurando compreender as mútuas e atuais consequências da relação entre nossa vida, espaço e lugar.

Forty years ago the understanding of space and place were brought into light in the moment that humanist geography was starting to be drawn by some very dissatisfied geographers with the status quo of our science. But four decades after, does it still make sense to discuss space and place meanings? Isn´t is solved? The answer is, respectively, yes and no. Since man and manhood are our significance start point we are – and should be – constantly changing. Therefore, space and place are not necessarily the same after these years. This conference presents some thoughts in search of the concepts but, most of all, seeking to understand the mutual and current consequences of the relation between our life and space and place.
