João Simões Lopes Neto cumpre o importante papel de apresentar a literatura gaúcha ao cenário nacional. O conto regionalista apresentado principalmente na sua obra magna Contos gauchescos solidifica a figura do gaúcho como personagem literária e traça um perfil de conduta deste tipo humano, através da sua literatura que, já em 1912, consegue sair da dimensão do pitoresco e ampliar-se ao universal. A figura de Blau Nunes, criada pelo autor, cumpre a missão de contar as histórias e envolver-se em enredos que vão da tradição gaúcha até aspectos históricos do século XIX no estado do Rio Grande do Sul.

João Simões Lopes Neto fulfilled an important role of introducing the Gaúcha Literature to
the national scene. The regionalist short stories, depicted mainly in his Magnum opus Contos Gauchescos, strengthen the Gaucho image as a literary character and show a behavioral profile of this human
type, through his literature which, even in l912, manage to emerge from the picturesque dimension and is
transcended to a universal one. The character of Blau Nunes, created by the author, fulfills the mission of telling the stories and being involved in plots which come from Gaucha tradition to historical facts from XIX century in the State of Rio Grande do Sul.
