A universidade pública e a formação profissional em Serviço Social estão enfrentando um desafio recente e significativo: a curricularização da extensão universitária. Ela é uma ferramenta essencial para a formação acadêmica, pois visa a estabelecer uma interação dialogal entre a universidade e a sociedade. Diante disso, o objetivo deste artigo é defender a importância da extensão universitária em uma perspectiva dialógica e emancipante para o processo de formação profissional em Serviço Social, e problematizar os desafios antigos e novos que surgem com a curricularização. Para isso, resgatamos a conexão entre Serviço Social e Paulo Freire e Educação Popular; questionamos a quem serve a universidade pública; e problematizamos a extensão universitária, a curricularização e os desafios para a formação em Serviço Social. Assim, constatamos que a universidade precisa se transformar e incluir a extensão como parte essencial da formação profissional. A extensão universitária dialógica e emancipante promove interação entre a universidade e a sociedade, buscando a transformação social e a formação de profissionais conscientes e comprometidos com a justiça social.
Public universities and professional training in Social Work are facing a recent and significant challenge: the curricularization of university extension. Extension is an essential tool for academic training, as it aims to establish a dialogical interaction between the university and society. Therefore, the objective of this article is to defend the importance of university extension from a dialogical and emancipatory perspective for the professional training process in Social Work, and to problematize the old and new challenges that arise with curricularization. To this end, we revisit the connection between Social Work and Paulo Freire and Popular Education; we question whom the public university serves; and we problematize university extension, curricularization, and the challenges for training in Social Work. Thus, we find that the university needs to transform itself and include extension as an essential part of professional training. Dialogical and emancipatory university extension promotes interaction between the university and society, seeking social transformation and the training of professionals who are aware of and committed to social justice.
