No presente artigo buscar-se-á apresentar a disciplina Semiótica enquanto um campo de relação possÃvel com a história nos aspectos teórico-metodológico. Percebemos que no campo da História existe um importante e rico debate com a História da Arte acerca do estudo das imagens. Contudo, propõe-se alargar este debate trazendo a Semiótica. Essa disciplina, nascida no século XX, é um instrumento metodológico importante na análise de imagens, sobretudo no que diz respeito à problemática do sentido. Deste modo, buscar-se-á entender as funções que a imagem cristã pode exercer na sociedade medieval. Por outro lado, a análise teórico-metodológica dessa imagem colocada sob a luz da semiótica pode alargar nosso conhecimento acerca do medievo.
The present article purposes to present the Semiotic discipline as a possible field of relation with the History on the teorical-methodological aspects. We perceive that in the field of History there is an important and rich debate with the History of Art about the study of images. However, we propose to enlarge this debate bringing the Semiotic. This discipline, born in the 20th century, is an important methodological instrument in the analyses of images, especially on what concerns about the problematic of the sense. Thus, it will be aimed to understand the functions that the Cristian image can exercise in the medieval society. On the other hand, the teorical-methodological analysis of this image under the light of Semiotic may enlarge our knowledge about the medieval.
