O presente artigo tem como objetivo apresentar um panorama geral da sociedade austríaca no ano de 1945. Com base em um romance literário de autoria de Johannes Mario Simmel, escritor austríaco que sobreviveu aos acontecimentos da Segunda Guerra Mundial, é possível analisar e identificar o medo e a culpa que os austríacos, independente de sua classe social, idade, ideologia e religião sentiam nesse período. Johannes apresenta uma história baseada em fatos reais, da qual participou, onde assume uma posição crítica e resistente ao movimento nazista e aos conflitos da guerra.

The present article aims to present an overview of the Austrian society in 1945. Based on a novel by the author Johannes Mario Simmel, an Austrian writer who survived the events of World War II, about which he wrote and published several novels, tales and essays is possible to analyze and identify the fear and guilt the Austrians felt during that period, regardless of their social class, age, ideology and religion. Johannes presents a critical, resistant to the Nazi movement and the conflicts of war story based on the true facts that he experienced.
