O presente artigo propõe discutir os processos de patrimonialização e salvaguarda de acervos epistolares a partir das noções de valor, patrimonialidade e reconhecimento. Buscando, assim, compreender e expor a importância desses valores socialmente difundidos e atribuídos a acervos epistolares em diferentes contextos de preservação, em especial, nas ações do Comitê Nacional do Brasil – Programa Memória do Mundo. Para tanto, foi realizado um estudo bibliográfico e documental acerca das relações entre patrimônio e acervos epistolares em diferentes contextos, apontando a influência das instituições para a efetivação de políticas de preservação, bem como para a definição do que é ou não preservado.
This article proposes to discuss the processes of patrimonialization and safeguarding epistolary collections from the notions of value, patrimony and recognition. Thus, seeking to understand and expose the importance of these socially disseminated values and attributed to epistolary collections in different contexts of preservation, especially in the actions of the National Committee of Brazil - Memory of the World Program. To this end, a bibliographic and documentary study was carried out on the relationships between heritage and epistolary collections in different contexts, pointing out the influence of institutions for the effectiveness of preservation policies, as well as for the definition of what is or is not preserved.
