Pensar sobre as questões que envolvem a juventude brasileira justifica-se pela situação de fragilidade em que ela se encontra. A mídia massiva, em geral, limita os jovens aos temas “violência e drogas”. Diante da importância da mídia para a (re) formulação de identidades e do exercício do direito à comunicação para cidadania, as rádios comunitárias constituem-se em um espaço de resistência. Porém, é preciso estabelecer os critérios que diferenciam uma rádio supostamente comunitária de outra, comunitária autêntica. E, a partir deles, fez-se uma análise da autenticidade e da participação juvenil nas três rádios autorizadas como comunitárias em Juiz de Fora (Trans, Life e Objetiva FM) e um estudo comparativo dessas emissoras com a Mega FM, uma comunitária autêntica.
