Este artigo é um estudo dos processos de mobilidade populacional estabelecidos no município
de Ituiutaba (MG), e tem como objetivo principal analisar as recentes transformações urbanas
provocadas a partir dos processos migratórios engendrados pela intensificação de
investimentos de capitais no campo, que influenciam no deslocamento de populações, com enfoque principal voltado aos trabalhadores nordestinos que migram para Ituiutaba e se ocupam na atividade sucroalcooleira. A cidade de Ituiutaba tem passado por uma fase de grandes transformações, entre as quais vêm se destacando a reestruturação urbana. As atividades econômicas implantadas no campo, associadas às presentes na cidade, privilegiam sobremaneira o setor urbano, convergindo para este, tanto a população do próprio município que deixa o campo expulsa pela nova configuração das relações de trabalho no meio rural, quanto a população de outras localidades que se dirige para Ituiutaba com a finalidade de se dedicar às atividades do setor agroindustrial. Estes últimos, chamados de trabalhadores volantes, mesmo tendo como local de trabalho o campo, se estabelecem na cidade, contribuindo ainda mais para o incremento populacional urbano.

This article is a study of the processes of population mobility established in the municipality of
Ituiutaba (MG), and aims at analyzing the recent urban transformations caused by the migration processes, engendered by the intensification of capital investments in the field, which influence in the displacement of populations, with main focus turned to the northeastern workers who migrate to Ituiutaba and engage in the sugarcane activity. The city of Ituiutaba has gone through a phase of great changes, among them has been outstanding the urban restructuring. The economic activities deployed in the field, associated with the activities implanted in the city, greatly favor the urban sector, converging to it both the city´s population itself that leaves the field expelled by the new configuration of the working relationships in the rural environment, as much the population of other locations that heads for Ituiutaba to devote to the activities of the agribusiness sector. The latter, called commuting workers, even though have as a workplace the field, they settle in the city, contributing further to the increase of urban population.
