O diálogo entre Patrística e Escolástica deve-se constituir em verdadeira escola de diálogo. A filosofia e a teologia dos Padres e da Escolástica não somente não são excludentes, mas também urgentes para a teologia e o pensamento contemporâneos. Este tema não estava ausente no século XIX, século fundamental para a recomposição e edição dos textos patrísticos e para o renascimento da escolástica com o neotomismo. Junto a tantas exigências contemporâneas provindas da filosofia, da religião e da teologia, que formam o pano de fundo deste diálogo, aparece um movimento peculiar na história do Cristianismo e ausente nas duas tradições aqui em debate: o ecumenismo.

The dialogue between Patristic and Scholastic should constitute a true school of dialogue. The philosophy and theology of the Fathers and Scholastics are not only non exclusionary, but also urgent to theology and contemporary thought. This theme was not absent in the nineteenth century, an important century to the recovery and editing of patristic texts and for the revival of Scholastics with neo-Thomism. Along with many contemporary requirements stemmed from philosophy, religion and theology, which form the background of this dialogue, there appears a peculiar movement in the history of Christianity and absent in the two traditions discussed here: the Ecumenism.
