Miriam Alves contribuiu exponencialmente para a valorização adequada da literatura afro-brasileira e com a representatividade dela nessa área e demais espaços semelhantes. Desde muito cedo, a consciência de sua família de origem simples e marginalizada acerca desses assuntos a auxiliou a sempre buscar formação literária e criticidade a partir dela, o que contribuiu para os trabalhos que ela participaria posteriormente, tais como os Cadernos Negros e diversos periódicos destinados à literatura negra no século XX. Nessas condições, Alves desenvolve-se como uma importante escritora dentro da Literatura Afro-brasileira e feminina e participa da constituição delas dando sua contribuição nas suas definições tão debatidas. Segundo a autora, esse tipo de literatura é aquela que se empenha em construir uma escrita que seja não apenas a expressão dos afrodescendentes enquanto agentes de cultura e de arte, mas que aponte a discriminação que os exclui do mundo das letras. A partir daí, este estudo busca discorrer detalhadamente acerca da vida e obra da autora e analisar o seu pensamento crítico acerca da literatura afro-brasileira. Para isso, o substrato teórico utiliza escritores como Eduardo de Assis Duarte (2011), Rodrigo da Rosa Pereira (2016), Zilá Bernd (2011) e na extensa lista de publicações de Miriam Alves. A partir disso, nota-se que a escritora procura mostrar que o papel do escritor afro-brasileiro vai além da escrita, ocupando o papel de intérprete e porta-voz dos anseios e dos sentimentos da grande maioria anônima dos brasileiros de origem africana.

Miriam Alves contributed exponentially to the adequate valuation of Afro-Brazilian literature and its representativeness in this area and other similar spaces. From a very early age, the awareness of her family of simple and marginalized origins on these subjects, helped her to always seek literary training and criticality based on her, which contributed to the works she would later participate in, such as Cadernos Negros and several periodicals destined for black literature in the twentieth century. Under these conditions, Alves develops herself as an important writer within Afro-Brazilian and feminine Literature and participates in their constitution, giving her contribution in her much debated definitions, according to the author, this type of literature is one that strives to build a writing that is not only the expression of people of African descent as agents of culture and art, but thatpoints to the discrimination that excludes them from the world of letters. From there, this study seeks to discuss in detail about the author's life and work and analyze her critical thinking about Afro-Brazilian literature. For this, the theoretical substrate uses writers such as Eduardo de Assis Duarte (2011), Rodrigo da Rosa Pereira (2016), Zilá Bernd (2011) and in the extensive list of publications by Miriam Alves. From this, it is noted that the writer seeks to show that the role of the Afro-Brazilianwriter goes beyond writing, occupying the role of interpreters and spokespeople of the yearnings and feelings of the vast anonymous majority of Brazilians of African origin.
