The present study analyzes the results, impacts and lessons from ProVárzea support to fishery resource management projects between 2002 and 2007. In this period, 15 projects developed activities in 28 districts from municipalities of Amazonas and Para, involving around 100.000 people and promoting the strength of institutions, the raising of local leadership, and improving fishing management system. The participative model of use and management practices by the local communities and institutions supported by ProVárzea is a new way to integrate government actions with civil society and making more environmental sustainability for fishing economy in Amazonia
