LA CUESTIÓN AGRARIA EN LA ESPAÑA CONTEMPORÁNEA: una teoría aplicada a la Isla de Fuerteventura (Islas Canarias)

The agrarian liberal reform spelled the advent of the Bourgeois Revolution in
Spain at the turn of the nineteenth century, that is to say, the transition from feudalism
to capitalism, which did not, however, culminate throughout this period. Thus, the
stamp of great property made Fuerteventura enter the twentieth century with important
semifeudal traits which nothing has managed to erase, not even touristic development.
Hence, from the end of the nineteenth century to the present day, a bureaucratic
capitalism develops in which encrusted semifeudal features remain and explain the
economic and social character of the island.
Resumo Espanhol:
La reforma agraria liberal supone el banderazo de salida a la revolución
burguesa en España cuando se inicia el siglo XIX, esto es, el tránsito del feudalismo al
capitalismo, pero ésta no culmina a lo largo del siglo y la impronta de la gran propiedad
hace entrar a Fuerteventura en el XX con importantes rasgos semifeudales que ni
siquiera el desarrollo turÃstico ha logrado borrar. Se desarrolla, asÃ, desde finales del
siglo XIX hasta la actualidad un capitalismo burocrático en el que las supervivencias
semifeudales se han enquistado y sin las cuales no se puede explicar la economÃa y la
sociedad actual de la Isla.
