Este estudo tem por finalidade analisar as perceções de jovens e adultosquepassaram pela experiência da institucionalização por períodos prolongados, em Portugal. Visa compreender como é viver num lar de infância e juventude, mais concretamente dissecar como é percecionada a institucionalização na infância e/ou juventude por quem passou por esse processo.Para o efeito contou-se com a participação de quatro indivíduos que narraram as suas vivências no Lar de Jovens. Pretende-se explorar três etapas do percurso da vida dos participantes: o período pré-institucional, o período da institucionalização e o período da pós-institucionalização. Esta investigação seguiu uma metodologia qualitativa e as entrevistas foram dissecadas através da análise de conteúdo.Os resultados sugerem que apesar da institucionalização apresentar aspetos negativos, os aspetos positivos pautaram o percurso destes adultos durante os seus trajetos na Instituição. Contudo também foi nossa pretensão, perceber algumas das contradições deste estudo e explicá-las à luz de outras investigações já realizadas nesta área.

This study aims to analyze the perceptions of young people and adults who have experienced institutionalization for long periods in Portugal. It aims to understand what it is like to live in a childhood and youth home, more specifically to dissect how institutionalization in childhood and / or youth is perceived by those who have gone through this process. For this purpose, there was the participation of four individuals who narrated their experiences at the Youth Home. It is intended to explore three stages of the participants' life path: the pre-institutional period, the institutionalization period, and the post-institutionalization period. This investigation followed a qualitative methodology, and the interviews were analyzed through content analysis. Theresults suggest that although institutionalization has negative aspects, the positive aspects guided the path of these adults during their journeys at the Institution. However, it was also our intention to perceive some of the contradictions in this studyand explain them in light of other investigations already carried out in this area.
