A fome e a educação no Haiti: uma ausência de direitos?

O presente artigo busca identificar e analisar a situação do Haiti num contexto pós-terremoto e de intervenção estrangeira, estabelecendo relação com os Direitos Humanos, especialmente no que diz respeito à alimentação ou à falta dessa, no caso a fome, e à educação enquanto processo necessário para a reconstrução de uma Nação. O texto apresenta de forma breve a história do Haiti, marcada por ditaduras e jogos de poder, numa história em que a educação e o desenvolvimento social nunca estiveram tão longe da população. O estudo traça um panorama do país na atualidade, apresentando dados e contribuições de autores, sociólogos e não sociólogos da América Latina, de modo a apresentar a situação da Nação frente a tantas adversidades que marcaram e marcam sua história.

This article aims to identify and analyze the situation in Haiti, in a post-earthquake context with foreign intervention, establishing a relationship with human rights, especially with regard to food, or the lack thereof, i. e., hunger, and education as a process required for rebuilding a nation. The paper briefly presents the history of Haiti, marked by dictatorships and power games, in a story in which education and social development have never been so far from the population. The study provides an overview of the country today, with data and contributions of authors, sociologists and non sociologists in Latin America, in order to present the situation of the country dealing with so many adversities that marked and still mark their history.
