Favelas e remocionismo ontem e hoje: da Ditadura de 1964 aos Grandes Eventos

Na década de 1960, no contexto ditatorial, foi implementada uma política sistemática de erradicação das favelas, tendo sido garantida por uma repressão nunca vista antes. A Redemocratização afastou o fantasma da remoção, enfraquecendo o tema, mas não eliminando-o definitivamente. A cada problema na cidade atribuído às favelas, como a violência, o tema da remoção reaparecia, até que, atualmente, os interesses em nome dos ‘Grandes Eventos’ justifica a volta do tema. Esse artigo trata dessa lenta escalada da volta da defesa das remoções de favelas e quais são as distinções e as semelhanças entre o contexto ditatorial e o atual momento.

In the 1960’s, under the Dictatorship government, it was established a systematic policy of eradication and removal of the slums, secured by repression measures from the State never seen before in the city. At the Redemocratization period, the Government established new policies that weakened the slums’ removal idea, though it did not disappear through the years. Since then, every problem in the city was immediately attributed to the slums, such as violence, and no late the removal of the slums had returned to the State’s agenda, when the interests on behalf of hosting “Major Events“ in the city justified the return of this policy. This article deals with the slowly escalation of the slums’ removal policy that is back now to the Government agenda, as though the distinctions and similarities between both times.
