Este artigo tem como objetivo compreender quais as representações de gêneros, o que significa ser menino ou ser menina, apresentadas por alunos do primeiro ano do ensino médio da Escola Pública Estadual Márcio Nery, em Manaus, buscando fundamentalmente compreender como se opera as relações sociais baseadas no gênero, bem como observar como estes alunos vivenciam os papéis de gênero. A pesquisa foi realizada por meio de entrevista semiestruturada, partindo da exibição de um filme curta-metragem intitulado “Gênero na escola”, em uma aula de sociologia. A partir da análise das entrevistas observou-se que as questões de gênero norteiam os espaços de sociabilidade dos alunos, família e escola. Estas, enquanto instituições sociais, desempenham funções de reproduzir e reiterar as normas de gênero. Os alunos também reproduzem o que se entende, culturalmente, por ser menino ou menina, resultando em um sistema de desigualdades o qual enaltece aos que obedecem aos padrões sociais e seguem as construções sobre o que é ser menino ou menina e rechaçam os que se desvirtuam do sistema binário homem/mulher ou praticam ações definidas como não condizentes com o gênero a que pertence.

This article aims to find out which representations of gender, which means to be a boy or being a girl, presented by students of the first year of high school at the State Public School Márcio Nery in Manaus, seeking to fundamentally understand how it operates based social relations gender and see how these students experience gender roles. The survey was conducted through semi-structured interview, based on the screening of a short film entitled "Gender at school" in a sociology class. From the analysis of the interviews it was found that gender issues guide the social areas of student, family and school. These, as social institutions play roles to play and reiterate gender norms. Students also reproduce what is meant, culturally, to be boy or girl, resulting in unequal system which exalts those who obey the social standards and follow the construction of what is to be boy or girl and reject those who misrepresent binary male / female system or practice actions defined as not consistent with the genre it belongs to.
