Esta pesquisa investiga como se caracterizam as exportações da RMC e qual sua representatividade para o desenvolvimento local desta região. Considerou-se a teoria da base exportadora e a abordagem do desenvolvimento local por meio da redução das desigualdades e distribuição equitativa de renda e empreendedorismo. Os dados endossaram a teoria de Perroux acerca da concentração de investimentos, uma vez que a RMC teve como sustentação econômica inicial atividades oriundas do setor primário. Estas atividades foram importantes para determinar a importância de Campinas como capital regional do estado. A infraestrutura logística disponível na RMC e a proximidade com a capital São Paulo (grande centro de ciência e tecnologia, mão de obra qualificada e investimentos diversos) propiciaram a instalação de grandes indústrias que promoveram o dinamismo e crescimento desta região. A partir dos produtos exportados, foi possível perceber que estes são produzidos por grandes indústrias e a participação de PMEs nestas exportações demonstrou ser ínfimo senão inexistente. Mesmo havendo exportações, a maioria dos municípios da RMC ainda está voltada ao mercado interno e não se identificou PMEs como participantes dos volumes totais exportados. Contata-se uma concentração de riqueza em grandes indústrias, o que contraria os postulados teóricos da abordagem do desenvolvimento local.

This research investigates the how exportations of RMC are characterized and what is its representativeness for the local development of this region. The theory of exportation base and the approach of local development were considered by reducing inequalities and equitable distribution of income and entrepreneurship. The data endorsed Perroux's theory about the concentration of investments, since the RMC had as initial economic support activities from the primary sector. These activities were important in determining the importance of Campinas as the state's regional capital. The logistics infrastructure available in RMC and the proximity to the capital São Paulo (a major center of science and technology, skilled labor and various investments) led to the establishment of large industries that promoted the dynamism and growth of this region. From the exported products, it was possible to perceive that these are produced by large industries and the participation of SMEs in these exports proved to be negligible if not nonexistent. Even though there are exportations, most municipalities of the RMC are still focused on the domestic market and SMEs have not been identified as participants in total exported volumes. There is a concentration of wealth in large industries, which is contrary to the theoretical postulates of the local development approach.
