The objective of this work was to determine the energy balance and evapotranspiration by the Bowen ratio method and to compare with the reference evapotranspiration obtained by the Penman-Monteith model, a mixed pasture composed of three types of species: Panicummaximum, Elyonurus muticus and Brachiaria humidícola under conditions of cerrado, from September to December of 2006. The experiment was carried out at the Experimental Faculty of the Federal University of Mato Grosso, in SantoAntônio do Leveger MT, where the AgroclimatológicaRicardo Remetter Station is located 50 m from the study site. The vapor pressure and temperature values were measured at heights 0.55, 1.00 and 1.55 m (levels 1, 2 and 3). The energy balance estimation was satisfactory when using gradients of levels 1-2 and 1-3, with a confidence index (c) of 0.87. However, the estimate of the energy balance at levels 2-3, presented values of Bowen ratio outside the confidence limit (-0.5 and 0.5) and confidence index (c) of 0.73, being lower than the levels 1- 2 and 1-3. The derating balance was used primarily as latent heat, being affected by the meteorological variables and by the availability of water in the soi
