Este artigo é um dos resultados de análise realizado a partir do projeto para uma exposição, no Museu de História da Medicina do Rio Grande do Sul (MUHM), a fim de abordar o tema dos 100 anos da Gripe Espanhola em Porto Alegre. Assim, levando em consideração a conjuntura vivenciada no ano 1918, o final da grande guerra e a epidemia da gripe, verificou-se como a Gripe Espanhola estava sendo comunicada, a partir do periódico denominado O Exemplo e de que maneira estava atingindo a cidade de Porto Alegre. Esse semanário pertencente à imprensa negra, editorado na cidade de Porto Alegre foi um lugar de resistência e memória coletiva, contribuindo para a construção de uma identidade positiva desta comunidade indo de encontro ao estigma da escravidão.

This article is one of the results of an analysis conducted for an exhibition at the Museum of Medical History of Rio Grande do Sul (MUHM) in order to address the theme of the 100 years of the Spanish Flu in Porto Alegre. Thus, taking into account the situation experienced in the year 1918, the end of the great war and the flu epidemic, it was verified how the Spanish Flu was being communicated, from the periodical called The Example [O Exemplo] and in what way it was reaching the city of Porto Alegre. This weekly newspaper, written in the city of Porto Alegre, was a place of resistance and collective memory, contributing to the construction of a positive identity of this community against the stigma of slavery.
