O objetivo desse trabalho foi destacar as principais contingências históricas da relação existente entre a Economia Doméstica e o Serviço Social. Baseado no materialismo histórico-dialético, desenvolveu uma pesquisa exploratória acerca da gênese dos dois campos no Brasil e no mundo. Foi possível perceber, nesse movimento, que ambos os campos tiveram origem no capitalismo concorrencial do século XIX, institucionalizando-se na era do capital monopolista. Historicamente a Economia Doméstica se manteve mais próxima as ciências agrárias e biológicas inclinando-se para as refrações da “questão social” de contexto rural, em detrimento do Serviço Social, orientado massivamente àquelas expressões ligadas ao contexto do proletariado urbano-industrial. Percebe-se ainda que a aproximação entre os dois campos ocorre após intensa crise de legitimidade da Economia Doméstica, fenômeno que culminaria em sua extinção, mas ainda coloca questões importantes sobre o desdobramento dessa relação para a formação e a prática dos assistentes sociais.

The objective of this paper was to draft the main historical contingencies of the relationship between Home Economics and Social Work. Based on historical-dialectical materialism, it developed an exploratory research on the genesis of the two fields in Brazil and in the world. It was possible to notice, in this movement, that both fields originated in the competitive capitalism of the 19th century, becoming institutionalized in the era of monopoly. Historically, Home Economics has remained closer to the agrarian and biological sciences, leaning towards the refractions of the “social question” in the rural context, to the detriment of Social Work, massively oriented to those expressions linked to the context of the urban-industrial proletariat. It is also noticed that the rapprochement between the two fields occurs after an intense crisis of legitimacy in the Home Economics, a phenomenon that would culminate in its extinction, but still raises important questions about the development of this relationship for the training and practice of social workers.
