Neste texto objetiva-se estudar a relação dos professores com o seu ambiente de trabalho, visando abordar a problemática, desafios e dificuldades que os professores do ensino superior de uma IES se deparam perante a realização de suas atividades, pois se sabe que o professor do ensino superior realiza não só tarefas pedagógicas, mas também executam várias outras funções burocráticas como a participação em comissões e atividades de pesquisa, extensão e administrativas. A presente pesquisa desenvolveu-se nas dependências da Universidade Federal do Amazonas, especificamente no Instituto de Natureza e Cultura – INC com sede no município de Benjamin Constant – AM. O estudo, inicialmente, buscou a participação de uma amostra total de 12 professores lotados no instituto, contudo, houve a participação de apenas oito professores, dos quais tiveram representantes de cinco dos seis cursos que integram o instituto. A pesquisa se caracterizou como tipo descritiva, vislumbrando a descrição dos fatos observados sem interferi-lo, assim como é caracterizada também por aspectos de pesquisa exploratória. Foi possível realizar a caracterização, os dilemas e anseios de professores atuantes no INC, levando em consideração as ambiguidades e conflitos nos níveis pedagógicos, administrativos e pessoais, identificando os mecanismos de suplantação dos desafios por meio dos argumentos apresentados pelos professores e posteriormente à discussão da importância do papel professor no ensino superior.

This paper aims to study the relationship of teachers with their work environment, aiming to address the problems, challenges and difficulties that higher education teachers of an HEI are faced with the performance of their activities, as it is known that the teacher of the Higher education performs not only pedagogical tasks, but also performs various other bureaucratic functions such as participation in commissions and research, extension and administrative activities. The present research was developed in the dependencies of the Federal University of Amazonas, specifically in the Institute of Nature and Culture - INC with its headquarters in the municipality of Benjamin Constant - AM. The study initially sought the participation of a total sample of 12 full-time teachers at the institute. However, only eight teachers participated, of which five were representatives of the six courses included in the institute. The research was characterized as descriptive type, glimpsing the description of the observed facts without interfering it, as it is also characterized by aspects of exploratory research. It was possible to carry out the characterization, the dilemmas and anxieties of teachers working at the INC, taking into account the ambiguities and conflicts in the pedagogical, administrative and personal levels, identifying the mechanisms of supplanting the challenges through the arguments presented by the teachers and later to the discussion of the importance of the role of teachers in higher education.
