The aim of this study was to analyse an extreme rainfall event occurred in Manaus, Brazil, based on data from satellite images and radar and meteorological stations. The studied event took place on September 30th 2013, 2013 and caused extensive materialdamage to the local communit. Satellite images show the formation of an intense convective activity on the border between the states of Amazonas and Pará at 05:30 local time, which spread westwards and reached Manaus 6 hours later. The radar images show the spread of convective activity in the form of a line that propagated toward the city causing strong convection in the western sector of the urban area of Manaus. One of the meteorological surface stations show that the rain’s volume exceeded what was expected for the entire month of September. The results also show that there was an average temperature drop of between 8-9 C for approximately 50 minutes during the event.
