Algumas críticas à ideia de patriotismo constitucional

O tema do patriotismo constitucional surge, pela primeira vez, na obra de Habermas, no debate sobre o passado nacional-socialista, contrapondo, na República Federal da Alemanha, intelectuais alemães em relação ao nazismo. No debate dos Historiadores durante a metade da década de oitenta, Jürgen Habermas pretendeu encontrar um caminho teórico capaz de inspirar um processo de reconstrução da identidade alemã, opondo-se ao neo-historicismo e sua tentativa minimizar a tragédia do Holocausto. A teoria habermasiana do patriotismo constitucional vem encontrando grande resistência por parte de teóricos, para os quais tal concepção, como forma de identidade política, seria incapaz de sustentar a coesão política e social. Pretendemos demonstrar, entretanto, como a reinterpretação da teoria do patriotismo constitucional por autores como Justine Lacroix, Ciaran Cronin e Omid Payrow Shabani evidencia que essa teoria não apenas é coerente, como pode se compatibilizar com o respeito às identidades culturais presentes em uma formação social.

The issue of constitutional patriotism appears for the first time in the work of Habermas, in the debate about the country’s Nazi past, in contrast to the German intellectuals in relation to Nazism, in the Federal Republic of Germany. In the debate of historians during the mid-eighties, Jürgen Habermas sought to find a theoretical way that could inspire a process of reconstruction of German identity by opposing the neo-historicism and its attempt to minimize the tragedy of the Holocaust. Habermas’s theory of constitutional patriotism has been finding strong resistance from the theorists, for whom this concept as a form of identity politics would be unable to sustain the political and social cohesion. We intend to demonstrate, however, as the reinterpretation of the theory of constitutional patriotism by authors such as Justine Lacroix, Ciaran Cronin and Payrow Shabani Omid shows that this theory is not only consistent, as can be compatible with respect for cultural identities in a social formation.
