“THE STORM”, DE KATE CHOPIN: UMA PERSPECTIVA FEMINISTA

Esse ensaio tem como objetivo discorrer sobre Kate Chopin e o movimento feminista, de forma a enfatizar a figura feminina do século XIX. Considerando o perfil político assumido pelo movimento feminista, por causa da completa exclusão da mulher na sociedade, evidenciamos que a referida escritora norte-americana estava à frente de seu tempo, visto ter construído personagens femininas fortes que transgrediam as regras morais e os comportamentos padronizados determinados socialmente às mulheres da época. Nesse estudo, nos utilizaremos do conto “The Storm”, escrito em 1898, analisando-o na consideração do agenciamento da figura feminina frente ao casamento e ao desejo sexual.

This essay aims to discuss Kate Chopin and the feminist movement, in order to emphasize the female figure of the nineteenth century. Considering the political profile assumed by the feminist movement, because of the complete exclusion of women in society, we noted that this American writer was ahead of her time, since she had built strong female characters that transgressed moral rules and patterned behaviors socially determined for women of that time. In this study, we will contemplate the short story “The Storm”, written in 1898, analyzing it in consideration of the arrangement of the female figure related to marriage and sexual desire.
