Inseridos no campo de possibilidades quase infinita de temas a serem investigados pelo campo da História Cultural, o presente trabalho propõe apresentar as sensibilidades construídas pelos piauienses no momento de anunciar a morte de seus entes no jornal “O Piauhy”entre 1869 e 1873.Objetivamos, também, demonstrar que os anúncios de falecimento fornecem diversos indícios que podem informar sobre a configuração social e as relações políticas estabelecidas em um dado lugar e determinado período, o que os tornam uma fonte de análise histórica bastante frutífera.
As part of almostinfinite possibilities of themes to be investigated by the field of cultural history, this work presents the sensitivities conveyed by the inhabitants of Piauí (Brazil) when announcing the death of their loved ones in the newspaper “O Piauhy” between 1869and 1873. It also aims to demonstrate that the obituaries provide several clues that can portray the social configuration and the political relations established in a given place and time, which make them a fruitful source of historical analysis.
