Este trabalho tem por objetivo refletir sobre o ser quilombola na perspectiva dos moradores da comunidade Quartel do Indaiá, no município de Diamantina/MG. A proposta é pensar as vivências e resistências desse povo, seus desafios e singularidades, destacando sua identidade e territorialidade. Em um primeiro momento, é feita uma leitura do ser quilombola através da revisão transversal dos conceitos de território - e suas derivações - e identidade social. Depois, a proposta é pensar a comunidade de Quartel do Indaiá à luz das reflexões teóricas estabelecidas. O método de pesquisa utilizado para a composição deste ensaio foi o levantamento bibliográfico, a observação participante, os diálogos informais com moradores e a entrevista em profundidade com uma liderança comunitária, realizados no mês de outubro de 2017. De maneira geral, este é um texto que se almeja antropológico, no sentido de permitir o envolvimento com o objeto de análise de forma mais intensa, que será a base para a busca da compreensão da complexa teia de significados - em uma perspectiva Geertziana - que envolve a identidade e a territorialidade quilombola atualmente, através da análise empírica da comunidade Quartel do Indaiá.

This paper aims to reflect on the “quilombola being” from the perspective of the residents of Quartel do Indaiá community, in Diamantina / MG. The proposal is to think about the current experiences and resistances of these people, their challenges and singularities, highlighting their identity and territoriality. At first, a reading of the "quilombola being" is made through a transversal revision of the concepts of territory - and its derivations - and social identity. Then, the proposal is to think the Quartel do Indaiá community in the light of the established theoretical reflections. The method used to compose this essay was the bibliographic survey, the participant observation, the informal dialogues with residents and the depth interview with a community leadership, held in October 2017. In general, this is an anthropological text, in the sense of allowing the involvement with the object of analysis more intensely, which will be the basis for the search of the understanding of the complex web of meanings - in a Geertzian perspective - that involves the identity and territoriality of the quilombola people today, through the empirical analysis of the Quartel do Indaiá community.
