O artigo examina as relações entre o tráfico negreiro transatlântico para o
Brasil, o encaminhamento polÃtico que foi dado a questão da abolição do tráfico, o valor
original da Lei de 7 de novembro de 1831 e as primeiras atitudes dos estadistas
imperiais em face do contrabando e a utilização da referida Lei por advogados e
rábulas nos tribunais em processos de liberdade. Observar-se-á que as releituras da
Lei de 7 de novembro de 1831 não foram apenas para inglês ver.
Resumo Inglês:
The article examines the relations between the transatlantic slave trade to
Brazil, the routing policy that was given to the question of abolition of the traffic, the
original value of the Law of 7 November 1831 and the first statesmen of imperial
attitudes in the face of smuggling and use of this law by lawyers and in court briefs in
cases of freedom. Notice will be readings of the Law of 7 November 1831 were not just
window dressing.
