A OBRA DE ARTE COMO REPRESENTAÇÃO DE VITÓRIA: MAINO E LA RECUPERACIÓN DE BAHÍA DEL BRASIL EN 1625

Este trabalho tem por objetivo analisar o quadro de Juan Bautista Maino Pastrana (1578-
1649) La recuperación de Bahía del Brasil en 1625 como elemento simbólico de representação de
vitória militar no reinado de Felipe IV (1605-1665). A obra de arte é uma fonte historiográfica
privilegiada, de onde podemos ir além das circunstâncias da encomenda e ver as ambições do artista.
Como expressão de uma alegoria do poder monárquico, o pintor expressa uma série de elementos visuais
relacionados numa trama narrativa que parecem fazer parte exclusivamente à natureza da obra:
encomendada por Olivares para fazer parte da decoração do Salón dos Reinos, La recuperación de
Bahia fazia parte de um conjunto maior de pinturas bélicas de diversos artistas espanhóis, concebidas
para apresentar ao mundo a imagem destacada da grandeza militar do Rei.

This study examines the painting of Juan Bautista Maino Pastrana (1578-1649) La
recuperación de Bahía del Brasil en 1625 as a symbolic representation of a military victory in the reign
of Philip IV (1605-1665). The work of art is an interesting source in History research, where we can go
beyond the circumstances of the order and see the ambitions of the artist. As an expression of an allegory
of the monarchy, the painter expresses a series of visual elements related in a narrative plot that seems to
be part only of the nature of work: a painting ordered by Olivares to take part in the decoration of the
Salón dos Reinos, La recuperación de Bahia was part of larger set of military paintings of various
Spanish artists, designed to show the world the image and military greatness of the King.
