Em O enteado (2002), de Juan José Saer, tem-se um velho narrador que conta de forma
poética a sua história, uma singular experiência de vida. Quando jovem, ele viajava como grumete
num navio que costeava a Bacia do Rio da Prata, quando presencia o ataque súbito e posterior
massacre da tripulação do barco pelos índios da região. Como único sobrevivente, é praticamente
adotado pelos selvagens, com os quais passa a conviver sem saber por que fora poupado. Assim,
esse livro tacitamente promove um debate sobre a Conquista Hispânica Americana, do ponto
de vista particular de um narrador que constrói poeticamente a sua visão daquele passado, sem
referir-se a qualquer fato histórico preciso.

In El Entenado (2002) by Juan José Saer, there is a narrator of old age which in a poetical
manner tells his story, a unique experience of life. In his youth he was travelling as a grummet on a
ship costing the Plata River Basin, when was forced to witness the sudden attack and further massacre
of the boat crew by the local indians. As the only survivor of the slaughter, he is practically
adopted by the natives, starting to live among them without knowing the real reason of have been
saved. Thus, this novel tacitly promotes a discussion about the Hispanic conquest of the Americas,
from the particular viewpoint of a narrator which poetically builds his vision of that past, without
any regard for historical precision.
