Pretende-se com este trabalho fazer uma leitura do romance Niketche, uma história de
poligamia, da escritora moçambicana Paulina Chiziane, que nos desafia, com seu olhar
africano, a pensar na história das mulheres, a partir do percurso, das discussões e
experiências vivenciadas pela personagem Rami. A rejeição à prática da poligamia leva
a citada personagem a mergulhar no caleidoscópio cultural de seu país e nos papéis
tradicionais atribuídos à mulher. A escritora, com grande sensibilidade, constrói o seu
mosaico narrativo a partir da recuperação de histórias orais ligadas ao feminino, o que
confere ao seu romance lirismo e leveza, enriquecidos pela reflexão política, cultural e
social acerca da nação moçambicana.

Resumo Inglês:

This paper aims to suggest a reading of the novel Niketche, uma história de poligamia
from the mozambicam Pauline Chiziane. From the standpoint of her African
background, Chiziane challenges us to think about the history of women through the
experiences, discussions and wanderings of her character Rami. The rejection of
polygamy leads the character to dive into the cultural myriad of her country and into the
nature of the traditional roles of women. The writer sensitively builds her buoyant and
lyric narrative mosaic with the revival of oral stories connected to the feminine and
enriched by political, cultural an social debate over the Mozambican nation.
