Resumo Inglês:

The present study aims to analyze the impacts of the Program to Support Expansion Plans and
Restructuring of Federal Universities (REUNI) at the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS).
The research is characterized as descriptive AND exploratory and the strategy used was the
single case study. Data were collected through semistructured interviews with six managers of
senior management participants in the implementation of REUNI at UFS. The results show
the main challenges faced and the effects resulting from the implementation of the program.
The approval of REUNI at UFS, as in other federal universities of the country, there was no
immune to controversies and discussions. Difficulties to achieve the targets were also
observed, however, the improvements outweigh them because there was, at graduation, an
increase of about 34.9 % in the number of vacancies and 28.6 % in the number of courses (
today UFS has 117 options of course), impacting on the growth of 69.2 % enrolled. The
number of professors increased by 77.2 % and 64% of them are doctors. There was growth in
research, extension and graduate and major investments were made in infrastructure, but
problems remain related to teaching conditions, such as classrooms, classrooms with too
many students, quality of services in the Library and the Restaurant, among others.
