A área do município de Unaí (Minas Gerais/Brasil) é totalmente coberta pelo Cerrado. Este bioma abriga uma grande diversidade de espécies e tem grande importância ecológica, hidrológica, nutricional, social e fitoterápica. Entretanto, sua população pode desconhecer tamanha relevância. Assim, este trabalho resume um conjunto de ações extensionistas com o objetivo de conscientizar alunos do 9° ano do Ensino Fundamental de três Escolas Estaduais do município de Unaí sobre a importância do Cerrado e sua conservação. Tais ações melhoraram o conhecimento dos alunos a respeito da biodiversidade, conservação, sustentabilidade e importância hídrica do Cerrado, contribuindo, assim, para a formação de cidadãos ambientalmente mais responsáveis.

The area of Unaí county (Minas Gerais/Brazil) is totally covered by the Cerrado. This biome harbors a wide diversity of species and has great ecological, hydrological, nutritional, social and phyto-therapeutic importance. However, its inhabitants might have no knowledge of the level of relevance. Thus, this work summarizes a set of extentionist actions with the objective of educating students of the 9th year of the primary education of the three State Schools located in Unaí city about the importance of the Cerrado and its conservation. These actions have improved the knowledge of the students about Cerrado biodiversity, conservation, sustainability and water importance, therefore, contributing to educating more environmentally responsible citizens.
